Alaska Christmas: Arts and Crafts Fairs

BB and I really enjoyed the Alaska Federation of Natives Arts and Crafts show we attended in October.  We saw amazing artwork and had interesting conversations with artists and vendors.  It made us want to attend more of them.  Lucky for us several arts and crafts shows are scheduled during the holiday season.

Last Saturday (11-26-2022) we attended two:

Crafted in Alaska:  This art and craft show was held at the Anchorage Museum.  There were jewelry, textile and fabric art, pottery, all natural soaps, leather goods and more.  The artists were all Alaskan.  Two musicians on guitar and hammer dulcimer played holiday music.  A portion of the proceeds will support Anchorage Museum programs and exhibitions.  Museum members got 10% off on all purchases, which we made sure we used.

BB bought a print:

First Annual Hotel Captain Cook Holiday Bazaar:  The Hotel's Discovery Ballroom overflowed with display booths.  There was an author selling his books, handwoven baskets, jewelry, all natural candles, prints and paintings, handcrafted knives and more.

This basket becomes one of my Christmas presents.  The woman in the picture with me made it.

Yesterday (12-03-2022) we attended two:

ANHC Holiday Bazaar:  This Bazaar was at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.  All the artists were Alaska Natives.  There were jewelry and holiday decorations made from beads, bone, antler and/or fur, colorful kuspuks (hooded overshirts with a large front pocket), wood and antler carvings of animals, prints and paintings and more.

This woman made the earrings she is holding:

Downtown Holiday Market by 49th State Brewing:  This outdoor market set up in the parking lot by the 49th State Brewery.  It was smaller than the others we attended so far.  However, Santa was there.  And he came with llamas instead of reindeer!  There were fire barrels to warm by, food and drink, and the artists with their arts and crafts.

A pretty, winter sunset to end the day:
