Alaska Christmas: Anchorage Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony (Saturday 11-26-2022)

All sorts of festivities were scheduled in downtown Anchorage the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

BB and I headed to Downtown mid-afternoon to take advantage of Small Business Saturday.  We spent time in 3 shops:

The Kobuk - a combination emporium of unique gifts and coffee shop.  Huffpost awarded them Dozen Best Donuts in Americal 2015.  We tried the donuts when we visited the store in August and yes, they are good!

Tiny Gallery - all the products in this store are made by Alaskans.  We recognized several of the artists from arts and crafts shows we've attended.

The Quilted Raven - Neither of us quilt; however, we enjoy browsing in this shop.  BB and I are tempted to buy small kits and give quilting a try.  Maybe it will become a winter project.  We enjoyed an interesting conversation with the staff about Anchorage, living in Alaska and the shop's upcoming move to a new location across the street.

And there was a Raffle!  Receipts from purchases from participating shops could be used to enter a raffle for two round trip tickets from Alaska Airlines.  We both made purchases and entered the raffle. No one has called yet to tell us how to pick up our free tickets.  (Heavy Sigh).

The Tree Lighting, scheduled for 5:00pm, didn't happen until 5:20.  We had hot chocolate while we waited and watched the crowd. There were fire pits to gather around if you needed to warm up and several opportunities for festive selfies.  Santa and his Helpers arrived and the festivities began!

Santa led the crowd in singing Jingle Bells and a child was selected to help light the tree.  The crowd counted down and the tree lit up!

We did a selfie:

We think we found us in this ADN photo:

You might not be able to tell this is us, but BB and I can!
