Today's travels took us from Fort Nelson, British Columbia to Watson Lake, Yukon.
Highlights
Animals! Animals! Animals!
This morning we weren't far out of town when we saw a big highway sign flashing a warning notice. The warning? Watch out for the wood bison at mile (opps, kilometer) marker
852. Lower speed and be alert. Fort Nelson is at km 454 so we had a while to go before we had to start watching out for bison.
We didn't get very far this morning due to road construction. In three hours we traveled 75 miles. There were 5 or 6 construction zones. A few held us up only 15 or 20 minutes. Two stopped us for 30 or 40 minutes and one took us on a detour down a dusty dirt road. They warned us - there were signs that said:

USE HEADLIGHTS
EXTREME DUST
They were using some impressive looking machinery.
Moving again we started seeing signs to watch out for Stone Sheep. Stone Sheep are found in British Columbia and Yukon in alpine areas.
So now we are looking for wood bison and Stone Sheep.
A few more miles down the road and we see signs warning us about caribou.
Ok. Now it is wood bison, Stone Sheep and caribou.
We come to Summit Pass, the highest point on the Alaskan Highway. What is standing in the middle of the road? A Stone Sheep!
We are driving through a wooded area by a stream and what runs across the road? A caribou!
We get to the the area mentioned in the warning sign we saw this morning and what do we see? Thirteen wood bison hanging out by the side of the road! We drive a few more miles and see another group of 15 to 20 bison!
I didn't get pictures of the sheep or caribou, however I did get pictures of the bison.
Mid afternoon we come upon a pickup truck pulled over on the side of the road. There's a black bear walking parallel to the road next to the tree line! We watch him until he runs into the trees.
We stopped late afternoon at the Cafe in Coal River for an early dinner. BB went in to order while I waited at the car with Grey. A woman on a motorcycle with a German Shepherd riding behind her pulls into the parking lot. I had to ask how the dog did on the bike and she says he loves it. Turns out she is Jess Stone and dog partner Moxie riding around the world on her motorcycle as a fund raiser for the global nonprofit Girl Up. ( For more info see https://www.goruffly.com/world-adventure). She started in Guatemala and was coming from a stop at the Artic ocean.
Stone Sheep, caribou, wood bison, black bear and a goggle wearing , motorcycle riding German Shepherd. It's been a great day!

Sounds like the adventure is rolling on! My comfort food as a kid has been and always will be good ole peanut butter and jelly. I don't eat it as often as an adult, but boy oh boy do I still love it! (Crunchy peanut butter!)
