Tuesday was a beautiful travel day. We were in the mountains most of the day, with everything that brings, the mountain peaks, the lakes, the rushing rivers along side the road, beautiful pine and white birch forests, wild animals, and cool breezes. We stopped multiple times for pictures, every spot seemingly prettier than the next.
One of our first stops wasn’t for scenery, though. When the Milepost book features a small lodge/campground/gas station/gift shop in Tetsa River BC advertised as “the Cinnamon Bun Center of the Galactic Universe,” come on, we’ve got to stop. They were really delicious and large enough to be split for a morning and afternoon snack.
We also stopped at a lodge/restaurant/campground/gas station and got “the best bison burgers on the Alaska Highway” for an early dinner. I’ve got nothing to compare it to, but it was a good burger with a grilled bun and crisp romaine leaf on top.
Arriving at Watson Lake, before checking into our hotel, we visited the Sign Post Forest. Crazy how something so simple can become an interesting and fun attraction. People from all over the world have brought signs and license plates and nailed them to posts. That’s it. There were thousands of signs, hundreds of posts, I bet. Sal and I spent about 15 minutes walking through and enjoyed the stop. The Blacksburg sign was one of the first we saw.
One more night in Yukon, one in Alaska, then we are home. Sal and I are still friends and have lots of laughs in the car. Grey has been a trooper and has earned much respect from me. I’ve always loved him, but this spoiled little guy has handled the trip better than I expected. Good boy.
